Instagram and Facebook ads cost in India (2026): how Meta prices ads and how much to budget

Instagram ad rates quoted online for India differ by a factor of a hundred or more. The rules Meta publishes are a far better guide to what you'll pay.

Meta doesn't publish a price list for Instagram or Facebook ads. The rates you find online were measured on someone else's account, in someone else's industry, often years ago.

What you can know in advance is how the auction sets prices, what gets added to your bill in India, and how much budget Meta says a campaign needs. We manage Meta ads for Indian businesses, and wherever we quote one of Meta's rules below, we link to the page it's on.

How the Meta ad auction works

Every time there's a chance to show someone an ad on Facebook, Instagram or another Meta app, an auction runs among the advertisers whose target audience includes that person. Meta's page on ad auctions says the winner is the ad with the highest total value, which combines three things:

  • Your bid: what you're willing to pay for the result you chose.
  • Estimated action rates: how likely this particular person is to engage with or convert from your ad.
  • Ad quality: measured from sources including feedback from people who view or hide your ad, and checks for low-quality signs such as withheld information, sensational language and engagement bait.

The same page spells out what that means: "an ad that's more relevant to a person could win an auction against ads with higher bids." Two businesses targeting the same people can pay very different prices for them. Meta also says the adjustments it makes in the auction "will not cause us to charge you more than your bid".

What Meta bills you for

Meta's developer documentation lists the events you can be billed for as impressions, clicks or other actions. Impressions are a valid billing event for every buying type in that documentation, which is why cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM) is the number most reports lead with. Paying per link click is only possible when the ad set is optimised for link clicks.

Why published Instagram ad rates in India disagree

We read five Indian pages that publish Instagram and Facebook ad rates and wrote down what each one claims:

PageCPMCPCUpdated
upGrowth (Instagram)₹45 to ₹400₹4 to ₹55Sep 2026
Anirup (Instagram)₹30 to ₹200₹7 to ₹50Jun 2026
Young Urban Project (Instagram)₹7 to ₹13₹0.45 to ₹3Apr 2025
The Media Ant (Instagram)₹200 to ₹800₹10 to ₹50Aug 2024
Mega Digital (Facebook)₹9.95 average₹0.51 to ₹2.26Jul 2026
As published on each page, checked 30 Sep 2026 and rechecked 13 Oct 2026. Young Urban Project also gives ₹7 to ₹5,000 for CPM and ₹0.5 to ₹200 for CPC elsewhere on the same page. Most of these pages don't say which accounts, industries or periods the figures come from.

The highest CPM in that table is more than a hundred times the lowest, and without the objective, audience and placement behind each figure there's no way to compare them.

In our experience the objective explains much of the gap. A reach campaign aimed at a broad audience buys cheap impressions. A lead campaign aimed at business owners in Gurugram tends to buy pricier ones, because Meta concentrates delivery on the people it predicts will fill in the form. Placement matters too: upGrowth's figures put Reels CPMs well below Feed CPMs.

How much does it cost to reach 1,000 people on Instagram?

This question hides a trap. Meta reports two numbers that sound the same. CPM is "the average cost for 1,000 impressions", and one person can generate several impressions. The metric for reaching 1,000 different people is CPP, which Meta defines as "the average cost to reach 1,000 Accounts Center accounts" and marks as an estimate.

Because reach can never exceed impressions, CPP is always at least as high as CPM. If your goal is awareness in a single city, CPP is the number to watch. If your goal is leads or sales, neither tells you much. Cost per result does.

Instagram ads cost per day: the minimum and a realistic start

The minimum Meta will accept

Meta doesn't publish one rupee minimum for everyone. Its minimum budget page says minimums "may vary by country and objective" and depend on "your business vertical, budget type, buying type, bid strategy, optimization, currency and schedule". Ads Manager shows an alert if your budget is too low. Any article quoting a fixed minimum for all advertisers is guessing.

The same page makes one specific recommendation: if you use a cost per result goal, set a daily budget of at least five times that goal.

The budget a campaign needs to learn

The number we plan around comes from Meta's page on the learning phase. An ad set usually leaves learning "after about 50 results in the week after the ad set's last significant edit". Until then, Meta says, delivery is less stable and cost per result is usually higher.

Work backwards from that. Estimate what one result (a lead, a message, a purchase) will cost you, multiply by 50 and divide by 7. That's the daily budget one ad set needs to learn properly.

If one lead costs youDaily budget for 50 leads a weekRoughly per month
₹150₹1,071₹32,000
₹300₹2,143₹64,000
₹600₹4,286₹1,29,000
Example cost per lead values, not benchmarks. Monthly figures use 30 days and exclude GST.

If your budget is smaller than that, you have two sensible options, and Meta's help pages suggest both. Optimise for an event that is "easier and cheaper to achieve", such as landing page views or messages instead of purchases. Or run fewer ad sets: combining similar ad sets, Meta says, also combines what they learn. What rarely works is splitting ₹15,000 a month across five audiences and waiting for results.

Boost post or Ads Manager?

Boosting is quick and fine for putting some reach behind a post that's already doing well. For leads or sales, we set campaigns up in Ads Manager. There you choose the optimisation event, control placements and connect the Pixel and Conversions API, so Meta learns from real enquiries rather than cheap form fills.

Why boosting on an iPhone costs more

When you boost from the Instagram app on an iPhone or iPad, you pay through the App Store and Apple's service fee is added. Meta's help page says boosting from instagram.com instead "allows you to save 30% on your total ad payment, before any applicable taxes and local fees", and that the ad is delivered the same way as a boost from the app.

You can also add funds to your ad account from a computer or the Ads Manager app, then boost from your phone without the fee.

Is GST charged on Instagram and Facebook ads?

Yes. Since October 2018, ads bought by accounts with India as the business country are sold by Meta India and billed in rupees. In Meta's words, they're "subject to a goods and services tax (GST) and tax deducted at source (TDS)".

Digital advertising attracts 18% GST, a rate that didn't change in the September 2025 GST revision. So ₹20,000 of ad spend carries ₹3,600 of GST on top, and TDS is added as well until you claim it back.

  • Adding a GSTIN is optional. Add it in Payment settings if you're registered and want to claim input tax credit.
  • GST and TDS are added each time you're charged. You still deposit the TDS with the government yourself.
  • Once you give Meta the TDS certificate, the refund comes back as ad credit rather than cash.

Meta ads management fees in India

Some agencies publish their Meta Ads management fees. When we checked on 13 October 2026, published entry plans ran from ₹3,999 a month at Webadis to ₹25,000 at Mediaverse Digital. upGrowth's estimates put freelancers at ₹15,000 to ₹45,000 a month and boutique agencies at ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh. Our ads management fees guide compares published fees side by side, with what each plan covers.

Ours are public. Starter is ₹7,500 a month for ad spend up to ₹1,00,000. Growth is ₹15,000 a month, or 6% of monthly spend once it goes above ₹2,50,000, whichever is higher. Ad spend is always paid by you, directly to Meta, and what each plan includes is on our pricing page.

Whoever you hire, three questions matter more than the fee. Will the ad account and Pixel be in your name? Will they send conversions back to Meta, so it learns from real leads? And will you see cost per lead and lead quality every week, not just reach and clicks?

A sensible first month

  1. Install the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API, and check that a test lead appears in Events Manager before spending anything.
  2. Pick one goal and one offer. "Book a free consultation" beats a general brand message.
  3. Start with one or two ad sets and a broad audience in your service area, and let Meta find the people.
  4. Give it three or four creatives: at least one short vertical video, one static image and one that shows your price or offer plainly.
  5. Leave it alone for a week. Significant edits during learning reset it.
  6. Judge by cost per qualified lead, not cost per click. Ask your sales team which leads were real.

If you'd rather have someone run this for you, our Meta Ads service page explains how we work. If you also advertise on Google, the auction there works differently, and our Google Ads cost guide covers it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Instagram advertising cost per month in India?
There is no fixed price. A useful starting point is enough budget for about 50 results a week per ad set, which is what Meta says an ad set usually needs to leave the learning phase. At ₹300 per lead that is about ₹2,100 a day, or roughly ₹64,000 a month, plus 18% GST.
What is the minimum budget for Instagram ads in India?
Meta doesn't publish one rupee minimum. Minimums vary by country, objective, currency and other settings, and Ads Manager warns you if your budget is below the minimum for your account. If you use a cost per result goal, Meta recommends a daily budget of at least five times that goal.
How much does it cost to reach 1,000 people on Instagram?
Look at CPP, Meta's estimated cost to reach 1,000 accounts, rather than CPM, the cost per 1,000 impressions, because one person can see an ad several times. Both depend on your audience, placement and objective, so the reliable figure is the one from a small test on your own account.
Is GST charged on Facebook and Instagram ads in India?
Yes. For ad accounts with India as the business country, Meta India bills in rupees and adds GST and TDS to every charge. Digital advertising attracts 18% GST. Adding a GSTIN is optional, but you need it to claim input tax credit.
Why is boosting an Instagram post on iPhone more expensive?
Boosts paid inside the Instagram iOS app go through the App Store, and Apple's service fee is added. Meta says boosting from instagram.com in a browser saves 30% of the ad payment, and adding funds to your ad account from a computer avoids the fee for later boosts.
Are Instagram ads cheaper than Facebook ads?
In our experience neither is reliably cheaper. Both are sold through Meta's auction, and prices depend on the audience, placement and objective. Run a campaign with automatic placements and check the placement breakdown in Ads Manager to see which works out cheaper for your business.
Should I boost posts or use Ads Manager?
Boosting is fine for extra reach on a post that is already performing. For leads or sales, Ads Manager lets you choose the optimisation event and placements, and works with the Pixel and Conversions API so Meta learns from real enquiries.
